The summer Dirt Crits series concluded on Thursday 1 March with some more enjoyable racing … and some congestion on the leaderboards! The overall outcome is decided by the best seven results for each rider, with only one of the individual time trials being allowed to count.
In the Junior division this led to the closest finish in memory with three riders tied on 74 points – Charlie Warren, Liam Fletcher and Angus Melville. Tully Godfrey was just a single point further back (73), closely followed by Flynn Culph and Thomas Warren, both on 71 points. Liam Fletcher also claimed honours for the fastest lap of the series with an impressive 5 minutes 55 seconds. A great effort by all the riders in the Junior series, especailly those who competed in all ten rounds.
In the Seniors it was a more clear cut win, this time for the Bendigo riders, led by Isaac Fletcher who was very consistent throughout the season to amass a total of 124 points. Shaun Darcy finished second with 119 points, and Rob Hole took third place with 113 points. The result was only confirmed after some fairly scrupulous checking of the round-by-round results (and after the place getters had been announced). Apologies if anyone went out and celebrated (or commiserated) too hard after the series conclusion.
The fastest lap of the series was a close contest between the Albrecht brothers, with Jasper recording 7 mins 19 secs, just ahead of Piper with 7 mins 26 secs. Al Farley showed that his racing legs are still in fine form with a fastest lap of 7 mins 32 secs.
The White Hills venue has proved to be a popular choice of circuit for this series, including the new technical features on the long loop. We had 29 Juniors compete during the series and over 40 riders in Seniors. A big thanks must go to the club volunteers who helped out with course setup, marshalling, handicapping, timing and results.
