Paula Ewing – rider profile

ntName – Paula Ewing

ntProfession – Event Manager, UCI Track Cycling World Championships.

ntUphill or Downhill? Uphill knowing the downhill is just over the top. I’m too cautious and rubbish at hairpin downhill turns as well. More work needed there!

ntMost epic day on a bike? Adaminaby to Corryong (via Cabramurra and Tumut Pond Dam) on the 2011 Chain Reaction ride from Sydney to Melbourne. Epic hills. Epic scenery. Epic sense of achievement. Absolutely loved it.

ntI’m currently riding… A repco refurbed single speed Chooka towny. Good points – makes me ride at a cruisy pace…and bad points – need a spanner when I get a flat… Apparently quick release wasn’t an option!

ntFavourite trails (other than Castlemaine) – hhhmmm. Tough to call. Castlemaine has some fantastic trails. We’re so lucky to have such a variety right on our doorstep. I must say though that Slickrock and Poison Spider Mesa in Moab were memorable, once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

ntIf I wasn’t mountain biking I’d be… organizing cycling events!

ntOne day I’ll ride… Well.

ntWhen I head out for a ride I never leave without… My bike.

ntMy race highlight – As a rider: 6th at the Otway Odyssey 50km a few years ago with a freshly broken coccyx. As a spectator: watching Cameron Meyer take a lap on the field in the Points Race to become World Champion in front of an electric crowd at Hisense Arena. I still get goose bumps thinking about it.
