From 2020 the club sponsors a number of younger riders to participate in the coaching program conducted by the 2 Wheel Academy Bendigo. This is a key element in our goal of facilitating new pathways for our junior riders to progress within the sport, especially in response to the level of participation and enthusiasm shown in the summer Dirt Crits series. Feedback from these riders has been extremely positive and their skill levels have all increased noticeably. Most of these riders are still involved in the 2WA coaching program.
Participation in the 2 Wheel Academy requires a solid commitment to attend the skills sessions and the support of parents or family members who can provide the necessary transport etc. Equally mountain biking should be considered as your primary sport in order to minimise conflicts with other activities. A good quality mountain bike and riding gear is also required (the Club may be able to assist with upgrades of equipment if required).
If you need further details about the 2 Wheel Academy or the scholarship process please check out the Academy website or contact Frank Forster, Communications Officer on 0414 410 411.
Over the past four years we have actively supported a number of club members to become accredited coaches with the Professional Mountain Bike Instructor Association (PMBIA). One of our coaches is now accredited to the Level 2 Air standard. These coaches are now assisting the club with running skills clinics for beginner to intermediate riders.
