Vic Schools MTB Series is coming to Castlemaine (Sep 12)!

Castlemaine Rocky Riders, together with Castlemaine Secondary College, are excited to be hosting Round six of the Victorian School Mountain Bike Series on Saturday, 12th September, at Castlemaine Secondary College. The Victorian School MTB Series is designed to be a fun and supportive event for students of all riding abilities. Whether a seasoned racer or new to racing, every rider is welcome. Participants have a choice to compete in either the race category, which is suitable for riders with previous racing experience, or join the novice division, for those wanting to give racing a go for the first time or simply ride and have fun with their mates.

This is the third year the club and school have come together to bring the event to the region.  The last two years have brought close to 200 riders from all over Victoria to compete on the day.

As in previous years, the course will feature both tracks through Kalimna bush and the school grounds, including the much loved stairs section. For riders who haven’t raced before, or those wanting to familiarise themselves with the course ahead of time, we plan to run skills session and a pre-ride of the course in the weeks leading up. These sessions will allow young riders to explore the track, gain valuable tips, and build confidence before the race.

The Castlemaine race is unique within the series as the junior committee members, together with the students of the Year 10 and 11 Outdoor Education program at Castlemaine Secondary College play a central role in putting this event on. Through their outdoor ed classes they are responsible for designing and setting up of the track. This has created a fantastic opportunity for these young riders and students to take real ownership of the event, while developing valuable skills and confidence in planning and organising a statewide sporting event.

Racing will commence at 9am, with categories for both male and female riders, starting from under 9s and continuing through to under 19s. Entry is just $30 and will open soon, keep an eye on our socials/website news for further details.
