Ride information:

The Pineys have changed in the last few years, but there’s still a heap of singletrack, and plenty of fun (and lactic acid) to be had.

Assemble at the Theatre Royal, Castlemaine for a 9:00 am pedal off.  Ride leaders will be Ross and Alexander, with a ride catered to intermediate/advanced skill level riders.  Ride time will be approximately 3.5 hours, including rests.

Following logging in recent years, local trail fairies have been active in both creating new trails, and reinstating some of the old ones.  It’s different to the old days, so this ride is a chance to get acquainted with the new landscape.  The route is a great loop that will ease you into it, with “gentle” (i.e. less brutal) climbing to get you near the summit, then some truly brutal climbing for the last little bit of altitude.  Then the great Piney descents that you know and love.  And then more climbing.  And then descending.

The Pineys trails are among the most technical in the Castlemaine region, featuring lots of steep climbs and descents, plenty of tree roots, technical components and some rock features.  The distance may not be huge, but you’ll be working hard quite often throughout the ride.  It’s a real step up from Bacos, so this ride will be geared to riders with good technical skills and good cardio.  Nonetheless, we have a no-drop policy to ensure no-one is left behind and we all have a good time.
